I. WHAT IS JUDGMENT?

  • Judgment has several shades of meanings and this word particularly denotes and implies a very important value, skill
    or ability

  • Judgment is the ability to understand a problem, situation or occurrence correctly with limited or certain amount of information

  • Judgment as we know, is given in general by judges, in the courts which is a part of our judiciary system

  • Judgment given by the judges, is based on the evidence that is gathered by the prosecutors, which are further testified in the court by the witness

  • The judiciary system in most countries, however advanced they might be in education and culture, is still struggling to know the full truth to base their judgments upon

  • In order to give judgment, the government goes through an elaborate and complicated procedure, to choose and appointment persons of a proven record of integrity and experience, to carefully process the information and to make the right judgment, without being biased, influenced or prejudiced.

II. Why do we have to Judge?

  • In order to meet out justice to the accused and the injured party

  • In order to avoid the innocent being pronounced guilty and the guilty to be punished, and at the same time to ensure that the guilty does not escape from penalty, when there is direct, admissible and ample evidence to prove the guilt and punish as per law

  • In order that accused is given a fair trial to enable the judge to make the right assessment of the case and to make a fair judgment

  • In order that peace and tranquility may prevail in every nation and deceptions, crimes, evil etc. are reduced to the minimum, if not totally eradicated.

  • In order to accord to every citizen, the individual rights to freedom as guaranteed in the constitution of the country in all areas of life

  • In order to make right decisions

III. How can we make right Judgments?

  • In order to make the right judgment, it is important that the person who has been put the position of making judgments, have the following characteristics:

           a. Understanding
           b. knowledge
           c. Analytical ability
           d. Sense of justice
           e. Wisdom
           f. Being unbiased
           g. Being discreet
           h. Being Fair and Equitable
           i.  Learning
           j.  Ability to interpret and decipher Situations and Information
           k.  Righteousness etc.

 VI. Summary

It is important to realize that every individual is put in a series of situations in their daily life, to make judgments concerning a variety of things and situations to discriminate between:

  • the right and the wrong

  • the good and the evil

  • the fair and the unfair

  • the proper and improper

  • the guilty and the innocent

  • the just and the unjust

  • the honest and the dishonest

  • the equitable and the inequitable etc

It is important to realize and to know that no matter how well a person may be educated, and how well he may have been raised in terms of upbringing, education, training and impartation of good qualities and sense of justice, no one can reach a state of perfection, when it comes to making clear and good judgments on the kinds of situations we face, and the decisions that we have to make.  Regardless of who or how good a decision or judgment is made, we can always find some fault, criticize and create some doubts concerning its fairness and justice.  Therefore, it is important to realize that, for this ability of judgment to be properly made, one has to be wise, perfect, flawless and supernatural.  Only one person can meet all of these requirements and that is God.

God's judgments which are recorded in the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, at different times in different eras, under different dispensations and situations, no matter how they seem to us from our standpoint, they should be accepted as fair, proper, just and equitable, in every sense of the word.  We can see through the World and Bible History a common thread runs which is the divine intervention and the move of an invisible hand.  If God is not fair and just, to give proper judgment, in all situations of the Human History, in the lives of people, then the word justice and judgment have no meaning at all!  This implies that in order to gain insight, wisdom, knowledge and understanding, to make right judgments, we have to know the Word of God and through it, receive His knowledge and wisdom.

Whatever happens in life, is the result of some judgment or decision that we or some one made, based on our finite knowledge and information.  This proves that judgment is a great 'value' that we all should acquire in life.

Scriptures
Just to give a few examples of the warnings given in the Bible about the consequences of certain kinds of acts, and the judgment that was pronounced and executed upon the people who were guilty of some wrong doing, through the human history, the following warnings given in the Bible are mentioned:

  • If you take a sword, you will fall by the sword

  • If you dig a pit for others, you fall into the same pit.

  • You will reap what you sow.

  • Do unto others, what you would have others do unto you.

  • If you judge others, you will be judged

  • If you do not forgive others, you will not be forgiven, etc.

Conclusion

We should understand the concept and the value of judgment.  When once we gain insight concerning judgment, our decision will be fair and wise concerning our life and those around us.  We will be healthy, happy, just, successful, prosperous, peaceful, safe, useful and have fulfillment and a sense of achievement and purpose.  It is unquestionably and indisputably true, that justice does not prevail in all the nations and circles of the world for the simple reason, that those in authority and influence make some wrong judgments and make some wrong decisions, knowingly or unknowingly.
