St. John's Gospel - Chapter 6

FEEDING 5000 MEN - MULTIPLYING 5 LOAVES OF BREAD AND 2 SMALL FISHES

When Jesus crossed the Sea of Galilee, a great multitude of people followed him, because of the miracles he was doing.  In that group were Philip, Andrew and other disciples.  Jesus made the multitude to have the Passover, a feast of the Jews.  The disciples of Jesus asked Him, how they could get bread for such a great multitude in the wilderness.  Then they said, there was a lad, who had only 5 loaves of bread and 2 small fishes.  After Jesus made all the men sit down in the grass, He took the loaves and the fish and gave thanks unto the Lord.  

THE VISIT OF JESUS TO CAPERNAUM 

When the disciples of Jesus boarded a ship and started sailing to Capernaum in the sea, a great wind arose.  When the disciples were sore afraid and helpless, they saw Jesus walking on the sea towards the ship.  After reaching Capernaum, the conversation between Jesus and the disciples expressed their amazement performed by Jesus in multiplying the bread to feed the multitude.  Jesus remarked, that the bread of God, which comes from Heaven is much more important, because it will give life unto the world.  He also remarked, that He was the bread of life and he that comes to Him shall never hunger and he that believeth on Him shall never thirst.  Jesus also showed that He will not cast anyone who would come to Him.  Jesus also expressed the will of the Father, which was that whoever seeks is son and believes on Him, should have everlasting life. 

THE MURMURING OF THE JEWS

The Jewish people on the sight were quite disturbed by what Jesus did and said and then remarked, whether he was not the son of Joseph and why did he say that he came down from Heaven.  Further, they remarked about the statement Jesus made, He that believeth on me will have everlasting life, was blasphemy. 

OTHER IMPORTANT TEACHINGS AND STATEMENTS MADE BY JESUS

• Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink His blood, you will have no life in you

• It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing; the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life

• Among us are my disciples and even some who believe not including the one that is going to betray me

THE FAITH AND CONFESSION OF SIMON PETER

While some of the disciples went away, Simon stood there and boldly confessed that they were sure that he was the Christ, the son of the living God.  Then Jesus remarked, that he had chosen 12 disciples including a devil, referring to Judas Iscariot, who was going to betray him.
