"And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me" (John 12:32) |
By
Patriarch John Williams (Founder/President: IICM OF NY - iicm@aol.com ) *************************************************************************************** |
Jesus visited in Bethany, Mary, Martha and Lazarus. They made a supper for Jesus and Martha served. Lazarus was at the table. Then Mary took a pound of ointment, a very expensive spikenard, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair. The whole house was filled with the odour of the ointment. Judas commented at this time that the ointment could have been sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor. He was not actually compassionate towards the poor, but was greedy of money. Then Jesus commented saying, "leave her alone, because she is doing it in view of my burial". Further he added that they will always have poor with them. At that time there were many Jews who did not just come to see Jesus but rather to see Lazarus, who was raised from the dead. The chief priests were finding ways to kill Lazarus, because many Jews started believing in Jesus, because of this miracle. The people received the word, that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem for the Feast. The People got excited about his visit, and took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him. As Jesus approached them they shouted "Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord". Just it had been prophesied, "Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt", Jesus came sitting on an young ass. Among the crowd were those people who witnessed the resurrection of Lazarus from the grave by Jesus. The Pharisees were, therefore, not very comfortable to see all the people going after Jesus. At this time some Greeks came and said that they wanted to see Jesus. When this news was brought through Philip, Andrew and Philip to Jesus, He answered them, saying, that the hour had come for the Son of man to be glorified. Jesus said at this time;
Then Jesus said "glorify His name". Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, "I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again". The people that were who heard it, said that it thundered and others said, "An angel spake to them". Jesus said, "This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes". Then Jesus said, "Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out". Though Jesus had done so many miracles before them, yet they did not believe him. This was the fulfillment of the Prophet Esaias who had prophesied, "Who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?" This is because Satan had blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, that I should heal them. However many chief rulers believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they would have been put out of the synagogue: These men loved the praises of men more than the praise of God. Jesus then made some profound and powerful statements:
