St. John's Gospel - Chapter 11

THE DEATH AND RESURRECTION OF LAZARUS 

Lazarus who had two sisters called Mary and Martha lived in Bethany.  All of them loved Jesus very much.  On one occasion, Mary anointed the feet of Jesus with ointment and wiped His feet with her hair, in expression of her love and adoration for Jesus.

A report came to Jesus saying Lazarus whom he loved very much was sick.  When Jesus heard that, he said, that the sickness Lazarus had was not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. 

Jesus said that their friend Lazarus was sleeping, and therefore, he wanted to go there to awake him out of his sheep.   Jesus knew that Lazarus was dead, but he also knew, being the Son of God, that he had power to raise the dead.  Later on He told the disciples the fact that Lazarus was dead. 

When Thomas heard that Lazarus was dead, he said, to his fellow disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with him".  When they all went there they found that Lazarus had been lain in the gave for four days already. 

Before their arrival there in Bethany, many Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.  But when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him.  Then Martha said unto Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died".  Jesus said unto her, "Thy brother shall rise again".  Martha said unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection on the last day".  Jesus responded and said unto her, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live". 

CONCLUSION

This is not just a story, but a real incident that has been recorded in the Bible.  All of them were real Bible characters and the towns mentioned in this story are real towns and we can see them on the Map.  Further there is ample archaeological evidence to prove this story.  It has been proved by Jesus, beyond any doubt that He was the Son of God, through this act bringing back to life, the dead Lazarus.  Jesus also made a statement prior to this incident that He was the Resurrection and the Life!  Therefore, we should know that Jesus has given us life to live, and further even after our natural death, only he can and will give us Eternal or Everlasting Life!
